THE STORY

A fire. A dead man. A guilty plea for arson, but not for murder. The truth must come out. Under the Justice Act (2023), you have been summoned as a remote juror for a new kind of online trial. You and your fellow jurors must review the evidence, speak to the accused, and come to a conclusion. Is he guilty or not guilty? And is there more to this case than meets the eye? How will you find the accused?

THE CASE

Harry Briggs has been charged with arson, manslaughter, and murder. He admits the arson, but has pled Not Guilty to manslaughter and murder. Under the Justice Act 2021, it is your job as a jury not only to look at the evidence, but also to interrogate the Defendant yourselves. Can you determine what happened on the night in question?

HOW IT WORKS

Jury Duty players are invited to join other players at a central London office location to take part in a new form of jury service. Live actors greet them and will assist, but not guide, their deliberations. Players are presented with physical evidence, sworn statements, and a computer database relating to a fictitious crime. Players interrogate a Defendant several times, and are encouraged to cross-reference with the evidence. When the time is up, players are asked to vote on their verdict!

FAQs

Tickets are purchased individually and all players attending for the same time slot will play together. You will be mixed with other players who have bought tickets for the same show. Please note: the show requires a minimum of five players to function, and shows that have not sold five tickets are liable for cancellation 48 hours before the show. Should this happen, all bookers will be refunded or transferred to another booking free of charge.

As it's performed by experienced immersive theatre actors, Jury Duty will respond to how you approach it as players. The facts of the case stay the same, but how you discover them may reflect what you do. At its heart, Jury Duty is a show about talking to a man on trial - you will get the chance to question a real actor playing that character. His fate will be in your hands.

Jury Duty can be played at any level you're comfortable with. There's room for jurors who want to ask lots of questions and dive into the detail, as well as those who'd prefer to sit back and observe. If you wish to attend and simply watch and listen, you are welcome to - though we highly encourage you to use your vote at the end.
